Driving Safety for Mature Drivers

Driving Safety for Mature DriversTransOptions recently launched a program called Driving Safety for Mature Drivers. The purpose of the program is to inform and educate the aging drivers of Northwestern NJ. Some of the topics covered in this program are vision and hearing changes, night driving, fine-tuning driving habits, planning before driving, staying sharp on the road, distractions and other risks mature drivers face.

The inaugural presentation was held at the Chatham Senior Citizens Group’s monthly meeting, with 43 people in attendance. The participants were very engaged and provided lively feedback and described the program as both "informative" and "very helpful."

According to AAA, as of 2008, 32.2 million U.S. drivers were at least 65 years old. That number is estimated to grow to 40 million by 2020 as the Baby Boomer generation matures and senior longevity increases. By 2030 roughly 1 out of 4 drivers on the road will be seniors.
