MAD Shuttle Goes Fare-Free

Madison Avenue Direct (MAD) Shuttle Goes Fare-FreeMadison Avenue Direct (MAD)

The Madison Avenue Direct (MAD) Shuttle, will be free to ride for the next two weeks. From September 1 through September 15, members of the public are invited to “Go MAD” and take a trip to downtown Madison. The MAD Shuttle connects The College of Saint Elizabeth, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Drew University to downtown Madison Borough, the train station and numerous stores and shops.

The shuttle is operated by TransOptions, northwest New Jersey’s transportation management association, through a federal grant administered by NJ Transit. With community buy-in from stakeholders, such as the Madison Downtown Development Commission and the three colleges, the MAD is able to offer students, staff and members of the general public an easy way to travel throughout the area.

Sporting a colorful new wrap, the MAD can be spotted traveling down Madison Avenue in style. To view the schedule and find out more information, visit

"Allowing riders to take a free trip is important," said TransOptions President John F. Ciaffone. "Some people, such as new college students and staff, may be hesitant to pay for a service they are not familiar with. This fare-free period allows those individuals to try it out. I think they will be happy to find that the MAD Shuttle is a convenient and enjoyable way to navigate the Borough of Madison."
