Employer Spotlight: Alcoa Power and Propulsion

Alcoa Raises Sustainability Bar

The Alcoa Power and Propulsion plant in Dover, NJ teamed up with the Alcoa Foundation and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) to launch Make an Impact on August 7th, 2012, an event featuring a presentation and activities for each shift of the site’s nearly 800 employees. Make an Impact is an event to provide employees with the knowledge and tools necessary to reduce their carbon footprint at home. The goal of this event was to get as many people as possible to fill out the carbon calculator, which tells each individual how to save money by conserving energy, based on usage in their home.

TransOptions participated at each shift, even at 3 a.m. for the overnight workers, encouraging carpool and vanpool registrations, providing transit information and promoting the “share the road” campaign with safe walking and cycling information. In addition, we staffed a table at the Make an Impact family picnic, having over 200 kids play our Safe Rider game and providing bike safety information to over 1,100 individuals.

Alcoa Howmet is a division of Alcoa Power and Propulsion - a world leader in the investment casting of superalloys, aluminum and titanium primarily for jet aircraft and industrial gas turbine markets and a leading supplier of forgings for the aerospace, automotive, commercial transportation, and other industrial markets.

Alcoa is the first employer to complete the criteria to be a 2013 NJ Smart Workplace designation.  If you would like to join them in this prestigious recognition, please contact Cathy Boccard at (973)267-7600.
