Transit Route Deviation Policy

Sussex County Transit operates an intra-county public transit system for Sussex County residents under Section 5311 of the Federal Transit Act. In order to better serve the residents near the established route, Sussex County Transit has established a Route Deviation Program. The bus can be diverted off the route for passenger pickup/drop off. 
 
  1. Route deviation service is available to the general public up to three quarters of a mile on either side of the established route where accessible.

  2. Passengers must call the Transit Office and request the deviation one day in advance.  However, same day requests will be honored as operating circumstances permit.

  3. No more than one deviation will be honored for any trip on the route.  The stop times listed in the schedule are approximate. However, the start times for each trip are firm.

  4. The fare for a route deviation is $1.00 per one-way trip.  The New Jersey Reduced Fare Program will be honored for deviation requests, and monthly discount cards are available.
